Tartans Defeat No. 16 Washington U. 1-0

(ST. LOUIS, Mo.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team travelled to St. Louis, Missouri and came away with a 1-0 victory over No. 16 Washington University in University Athletic Association (UAA) play.

The Tartans kept constant pressure on Washington from the beginning of the game. Senior Chris Wysocki (Newton, Pa./Germantown Academy) took advantage of an error by Bears' senior goalkeeper Jonathan Jebson in the 9th minute of play.  Junior Colin Shaffer (Huntington Beach, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) sent a cross into the box that Jebson attempted to punch out, but the deflection went to Wysocki who headed into an open net for the first and only goal of the game.  Wysocki's goal was his fifth on the season.

Carnegie Mellon held onto its one-goal lead throughout the second half with senior keeper Christopher Madden (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall) making five saves for the Tartans. Jebson ended the game with four saves for the Bears.

The Tartans now have eight shutouts on the season, as they improved to 8-2-1 overall and to 1-1 in the UAA.  Washington U. falls to 6-3-2, 0-1-1.  Carnegie Mellon will continue UAA play at home on October 18 against Brandeis.
