Tartans and Rochester Tie in Key UAA Battle

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - The 12th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team finished its game at 14th-ranked University of Rochester in a 0-0 tie as the two teams remain atop the men's soccer standings in the University Athletic Association (UAA). The Tartans are now 11-2-2 on the year and 4-1-1 in the UAA with the Yellowjackets holding at 12-2-2 and 4-1-1.

The Tartans moved into their final third of the field early in the first half but a shot by freshman Tristan Lockwood (Victor, N.Y./Victor) was high following a corner kick by senior Ben Bryant (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills) at the 3:01 mark. Senior Matt Sarett (Huntersville, N.C./Cannon) then had a shot attempt saved by Rochester keeper Mike Moranz in the eighth minute before the Tartans got forward again in the 22nd minute when Moranz made a save on a shot by senior Max Tassano (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Lower Merion).

The Yellowjackets best opportunity of the half happened in the 37th minute when junior Nick Pastore fired a curling shot from the left wing that smacked the crossbar just over the reach of goalkeeper Christopher Madden's (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall) outstretched hands.

Just over a minute later, Rochester sophomore Tyler Buck headed a shot right on the Carnegie Mellon net, but that attempt was stopped by Madden.

After a shot by senior Chris Wysocki (Newtown, Pa./Germantown Academy) was blocked in the first minute of the second half, Rochester held possession and had four scoring opportunities through the 56th minute. Three shot attempts were saved by Madden while another hit off the crossbar.

Wysocki came into play again midway through the second half with a shot off a cross by senior Mike Ferraco (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) that was saved by Moranz. Wysocki then put another attempt on target in the 69th minute that was saved by Moranz with the rebound being struck wide by Tassano.

Bryant had back-to-back shot attempts in the 77th minute blocked by the defense and Madden made another two saves in the 82nd and 86th  minute to send the game into overtime.

Neither team could muster any good scoring chances in both overtime periods sending each club to its second tie of the season.

For the game Madden stopped six shots to earn his sixth shutout of the season while Moranz made four saves for Rochester.
