No. 13 Tartans Just Miss OT Win, Tie Emory

(ATLANTA, Ga.) - The 13th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team tied Emory University 1-1 in the final regular season game of the season, just missing victory after a shot with four seconds left hit the crossbar. The Tartans are now 11-2-3 on the year and 4-1-2 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while Emory finishes at 11-5-2 and 4-1-2.

Emory struck first in the ninth minute with an unassisted goal by Andrew Jones but the Tartans equalized in the 18th minute on senior Chris Wysocki's (Newtown, Pa./Germantown Academy) team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Wysocki finished a pass into the box by senior Matt Sarett (Huntersville, N.C./Cannon) who picked up his second assist of the year. Wysocki had another two shots for the period but both were off the mark.

Senior keeper Christopher Madden (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall) collected two saves for the first half with the team saving a shot in the 34th minute and an Emory shot going off the post in the 40th minute.

The Tartans controlled the early goings of the second period with four shots in the first 16 minutes including one by senior Cole Christensen (Castle Rock, Colo./Rock Canyon) that was saved by Emory keeper Abe Hannigan.

Of the Tartans' 13 second half shots, only two were on frame as Wysocki had one stopped by Hannigan in the 80th minute. Madden made a save in the 89th minute as three other shots by the Eagles were off the mark for the half.

The Tartans had their chances in both overtime periods, getting off 10 total shots as Hannigan stopped two. The Tartans' final shot came with four seconds to play by senior Max Tassano (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Lower Merion) but the ball hit the crossbar as the game ended in a tie.

The Tartans still have a chance to be co-champions of the UAA if the University of Rochester were to tie Case Western Reserve University. The game will be played at 5:00 p.m. Saturday in Cleveland.

The team will await their post-season fate on Monday, November 11 as the NCAA selection show will take place at 1:00 p.m.
