Seven Earn All-UAA Honors for 2013 Performance

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Seven Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer players earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Soccer All-Association honors from the league's coaches following their 2013 performance on the pitch. Leading the group is seniors Matt Sarett (Huntersville, N.C./Cannon) and Max Tassano (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Lower Merion) on the first team. 

Both Sarett and Tassano are repeat honorees on the first team and three-time honorees overall. Sarett is the Tartans leader in the central midfield where he started every game tallying two goals and two assists including the game winner in the second game of the season against University of Mount Union. Tassano started every game up top for the Tartans and leads the team in points with six goals scored and four assists. He has recorded three game-winning goals, including the one against Association opponent Case Western Reserve University.

Seniors Ben Bryant (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills) and Chris Wysocki (Newtown, Pa./Germantown Academy) were honored with a second-team selection. Bryant's honor is the second of his career while Wysocki previously earned two honorable mention selections. As a defender, Bryant has scored two goals and assisted on three while leading the back line that has contributed to a team goals against average of 0.65, which is 22nd in the nation. The team has also recorded nine shutouts, calculating to a 0.56 shutout percentage and national ranking of 14. From his forward position, Wysocki leads the team in goals scored with seven, including three in Association play. Three of his goals have been game winners including a timely goal in a 1-0 win over Washington University.

All-Association Honorable Mention honors go to senior Christopher Madden (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall), junior Jakob Rohwer (Southborough, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover) and senior Jerome Reano (Albuquerque, N.M./Saint Pius X). Madden is the Tartans' goalkeeper and has recorded six of the team's nine shutouts, has a goals against average of 0.76, a saves percentage of .800 and a record of 9-2-3. Rohwer is honored with his first award and anchors the defense from his center back position. This season Rohwer has assisted on three goals, recording two in the 4-2 win over Case Western Reserve. Reano is a forward with three goals scored, two in Association play, and two game winners. Both of his Association goals were impactful, as he tied the game late in a 2-1 overtime win against Brandeis and scored the game winner two days later against New York University when the Tartans trailed 2-0.

The Tartans finished the regular season with an 11-2-3 mark and open NCAA tournament play tomorrow, Saturday, November 16, with an 11:00 a.m. contest against Virginia Wesleyan College at home in Pittsburgh.
