Webb's Hat Trick Leads Tartans to 8-0 Victory at Muskingum

(NEW CONCORD, Ohio) - Behind a career performance from senior William Webb (Dallas, Texas/J.J. Pearce), the Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team defeated Muskingum University 8-0 on Tuesday, September 1 to open the 2015 season. The Tartans scored six first-half goals while registering 14 shots on goal for the game.

Senior Stefan Dasbach (Philadelphia, Pa./Wissahickon) opened the scoring with his first career marker in the eighth minute as junior Tristan Lockwood (Victor, N.Y./Victor) assisted on the play. Webb found the back of the net for the first time in the half in the 20th minute before scoring again in the 26th minute, both coming from the penalty kick line. It was then Lockwood's turn for a score as he put the Tartans ahead 4-0 two minutes later converting a rebound off his own blocked shot from inside the 18-yard box.

In the 39th minute, freshman Zack Masciopinto (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) connected on his first career shot when his header got past Josh Routte. Webb registered the assist from a corner kick and then scored his third of the game off his own header via a corner kick by freshman Sean MacPherson (Palo Alto, Calif./Gunn) in the final 23 seconds of the half.

Sophomore Ryan Stinebaugh (Houston, Texas/Strake Jesuit College Prep) joined the scoring action in the 55th minute when he finished off a crossing pass from Masciopinto. The Tartans added to the scoreline in the 72nd minute when freshman Philip Petrakian (Redwood City, Calif./Sacred Heart Preparatory) scored with a shot from the left to the far post.

The Fighting Muskies registered their first shot on goal in the 75th minute when freshman goalie Alec Lam (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) picked up the save after entering the game for senior Eric Bykowsky (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) in the 65th minute. Lam tallied the only two saves for the game as he, Bykowsky and sophomore Andrew Ferber (Danville, Calif./Dougherty Valley) combined for the shutout.

"We had a productive preseason and were hoping to play well tonight," head coach Brandon Bowman said. "This is a start to what we hope will be an exciting season."

Webb's hat trick is the first of his career as he becomes the first Tartan to score three in a game since September 22, 2012 when Max Tassano scored three in a 6-2 win against Bethany College.

The Tartans return home for their next contest when they host La Roche College on Friday, September 4 at 6:30 p.m. for the first evening of the Carnegie Mellon University DoubleTree Showcase.
