Second Half Goals Push No. 9 Kenyon Past Tartans

(GAMBIER, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team was looking for its fourth victory of the year but were stopped just short by the ninth-ranked Kenyon College Lords on Saturday, September 12 when the Lords rallied for a 4-3 victory on their home field. The Tartans are now 3-1 on the year while the Lords stay unblemished at 4-0.

Senior William Webb (Dallas, Texas/J.J. Pearce) opened the scoring with his eighth goal of the year in the sixth minute on an unassisted play.

A little more than two minutes later the Lords equalized when Tony Amolo got a shot past junior keeper Eric Bykowsky (Columbia, S.C./Irmo).

The Tartans were able to take a 2-1 lead in the 16th minute when sophomore Ryan Stinebaugh (Houston, Texas/Strake Jesuit College Prep) found the back of the net for his second marker of the season. Webb earned his 19th point of the year with the assist on the play, serving a corner kick to the middle of the box.

The Tartans' lead held until the 69th minute when a free kick by Jeremiah Barnes was headed in by Henry Myers. Not even two minutes passed before the Lords took a 3-2 lead when Oliver Wynn blasted a shot from distance past Bykowsky.

In the 89th minute, the Lords added an insurance goal by Amolo off a penalty kick which stood tall as Stinebaugh put another shot in with eight seconds to play, making the final score 4-3 in favor of the Lords.

The Tartans will stay on the road as they'll face The College of Wooster on Sunday, September 13 at 4:00 p.m.
