Tartans Score Late Equalizer, Tie Emory, 1-1

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team battled Emory University to a 1-1 tie after two 10-minute overtimes on Sunday, October 18 in University Athletic Association (UAA) play. With the tie, the Tartans are now 8-2-3 on the year and 1-1-2 in the UAA.

In the 17th minute, Emory earned a corner kick and Christian Meyer's service to the back post was headed in by Matt Sherr for the 1-0 lead.

The Tartans best opportunity of the first half came when senior William Webb (Dallas, Texas/J.J. Pearce) curled a shot from 30 yards out that was just wide of the right post in the 29th minute.

In the second half, the Tartans had one shot on goal before the 88th minute when freshman Sean MacPherson (Palo Alto, Calif./Gunn) broke through with a shot past Abe Hannigan. A long service from beyond the half by senior Greg Allen (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona del Mar) bounced inside the 18-yard box and MacPherson fired a shot to the opposite post for the equalizer.

In the second overtime, the Tartans had two shots on goal as senior Stefan Dasbach (Philadelphia, Pa./Wissahickon) had a shot saved by Hannigan in the 105th minute while junior Devin Keane (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) had a shot saved 42 seconds later.

The Tartans will next face Mount Aloysius in non-conference action on Wednesday, October 21 at home with a start time of 7:00 p.m. before returning to UAA play on Friday, October 30 at Washington University in St. Louis.
