Three Tartans Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Team

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Three Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer players have been named to the Academic All-District men's soccer team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Senior Andreas Fatschel (Seven Fields, Pa./Seneca Valley) earned his second award while sophomores Zack Masciopinto (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) and Anthony Gulli (Warrenville, Ill./St. Joseph) receive the honor for the first time and are the only two sophomores on the district team.

Carnegie Mellon is part of District 4 which is comprised of all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania. Both Fatschel and Masciopinto now move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America recognition.

Fatschel is a three-year starter at defensive back for the Tartans as well as a two-year captain. The Tartans are currently ranked 23rd in the nation and have seven shutouts with a 10-2-2 record. Last year, he was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team. Fatschel is a three-time University Athletic Association (UAA) All-Academic honoree and was named to the All-UAA Honorable Mention team as a sophomore.

This past summer he interned at Philips Respironics. He has served as an academic counselor and participated in the emerging leaders program. A member of the mechanical engineering honor society, Fatschel volunteers with Team IMPACT, Special Olympics and his church by collecting clothing for the needy.

Masciopinto is a two-year starter and is also a captain of this year's team. He leads the Tartans with nine goals scored and three assists. Six of his goals have been game winners and he has scored in three of the four UAA contests played this season. As a sophomore, Masciopinto is majoring in mechanical engineering with a minor in robotics and carries a 3.67 GPA. He is the vice president of member development for CMU Solar Racing, a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and volunteers with Team IMPACT and Special Olympics. Last summer, he worked as a youth soccer coach for his hometown club, Elite S.C. in Illinois.

Gulli has started eight of 14 games this year and is second behind Masciopinto in goals and points with five goals and 13 points. As a business administration major with a concentration in finance, Gulli carries a 3.79 GPA. He has spent two summers as an asset management intern and investment banking analyst and is a member of the Tartan Student Fund which conducts company fundamental and valuation analysis to identify investment opportunities. Gulli was also one of 10 students in his class year to be accepted into the undergraduate Investment Banking Academy and he's on the consulting committee for the Undergraduate Marketing Organization.

The Tartans have three games remaining on their regular season schedule and return to action on Friday, October 28 when they host Washington University at 7:30 p.m.
