Short Feature with Men's Soccer Sophomore Jacob Moskowitz

Sophomore Jacob Moskowitz, an architecture major from Wilmette, Illinois, answers a few questions about student life at Carnegie Mellon, what he's excited for during spring semester, and why he chose architecture as his major.

1. What do you enjoy about campus life? What do you get involved in outside of soccer?

I like how all of the buildings on campus are so close to each other. It makes it easy to meet up with friends in between classes for lunch or to just hang out for a little bit. It only takes about ten minutes at the most to get from one side of the campus to the other. I also am a big fan of biking to school. The campus is close enough to my house that I can just bike down the hill right to classes in the mornings. The only issue is biking back up that hill after a long day! I really enjoy playing intramural sports with some guys from the soccer team. Right now we are in the basketball league where we play once a week against other teams from school. It's a great way to stay active and reduce stress during the off season.

2. What are you excited about for spring semester?

I'm really excited about going to Italy with the rest of the soccer team this spring break. I think it will be a great team building activity that we will remember for the rest of our lives. The thought of having to play against some Italian soccer teams gives me an extra incentive to work even harder in our morning workout sessions.

3. Why did you select your course of study – what class have you enjoyed the most?

I chose to study architecture in college because that area of study is what I was most excited about in high school. This semester, we are taking a course called Materials and Assembly. Apparently, it is an incredibly rigorous course, but one of the most important classes we will take during our time at CMU because it teaches us all about how to actually construct a building with different materials.

4. What do you like about Pittsburgh?

I love how there are so many different places to go to eat food in our area. A five minute bus ride any direction from campus and you will be in an area full of restaurants. I think there are so many places to go because CMU, Pitt, and Duquesne are all in such a close vicinity to each other. Kids get hungry!
