Short Feature with Men's Soccer Rising Sophomore Sam Adida

Rising sophomore Sam Adida, a biology major from Pasadena, California, answers a few questions about student life at Carnegie Mellon, what he's excited for next semester, how he decided on his major, and what he enjoys about Pittsburgh.

1. What do you enjoy about campus life?

Some things I enjoy about campus life include my professors, my friends, and the sense of freedom of being on my own.

2. What do you get involved in outside of soccer?

Outside of soccer, I am an active member of Alpha Epsilon Delta, a preprofessional heath organization on campus, which provides exposure and information on how to apply to medical school, what steps I should take, and information on how to complete the overall process.

3. What are your summer plans?

Rather than an internship, I volunteered at my local hospital. Alongside Dr. Burnham, I shadowed his work which provided an exposure to the hospital setting and patient-to-doctor relationships.

4. What are you excited about next semester?

I'm really excited to live on my own with a couple of my roommates. Rather than a dorm, we're renting a house close to campus, which will definitely be liberating.

5. Why did you select your course of study – what class have you enjoyed the most?

With plans on switching my major from biology to chemistry, I study the sciences due to the fact that it is the most interesting subject of mine, and it provides the foundation for the transition into medical school. So far, my favorite class has been Honors Biology with Professor D'Antonio.

6. What class would you recommend someone take?

I would recommend a science major to take Lenny Vuocolo's Modern Chemistry I. Although a challenging class, it provides a solid foundation in the realm of chemistry and provides the backbone between both physics and biology alongside chemistry.

7. What have you enjoyed about living in Pittsburgh?

The weather. I'm from Los Angeles, CA, and even though some might think blue skies and warm weather is best, it's definitely enjoyable going through all four seasons, with snow and a colorful spring.

8. What has been a memorable moment as part of the team?

My favorite moment with the team was easily spring break in Italy. Playing local teams, visiting tourist spots, and engulfing the fine food were the highlights of the trip.
