Seniors Win Weekend Games, Top Rochester 1-0

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team collected its third University Athletic Association (UAA) win and second of the week with a 1-0 score against the University of Rochester at home on Sunday, October 30. The Tartans are now 11-3-1 overall and 3-3 in the UAA with Rochester moving to 6-5-4 and 1-3-2.

  • Both teams managed three shots on goal with the game-winner for the Tartans coming in the 36th minute.
  • Junior Alejandro Fernandez scored the winner, his first goal as a Tartan (10th career), after putting in a pass off the foot of senior Kiran Sarvepalli.
  • Freshman Zach Schonwetter also earned an assist on the goal as he gave a pass into the box on the end line for Sarvepalli who one-touched a pass across the goal mouth between defenders for Fernandez.
  • Freshman Liam Ryan earned the win, his 10th of the season and fourth shutout.

The Tartans will complete the UAA season on Saturday, November 5 at Case Western Reserve University at 1:00 p.m. The Spartans are currently 4-1-1 and in second place in the UAA standings while the Tartans are fourth.
