Men’s Soccer Selected to NCAA Championship Field for 15th Time

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team received an at-large bid to the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship. The appearance in the NCAA tournament marks the 15th for the program and fourth under ninth-year head coach Brandon Bowman. The last appearance for the Cardinal and Gray was in 2018 when they advanced via penalty kicks before falling in overtime in the second round.

The Tartans enter the NCAA tournament with an 11-4-1 mark and will travel to Kenyon College on Friday, November 11 and Saturday, November 12 for a four-team regional. Carnegie Mellon will open the tournament against 17th-ranked Calvin University (16-2-2), winners of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association for the eighth time. Should the Tartans advance, they'll play the winner of third-ranked Kenyon (16-1-1) and Greenville College (11-3-5) on Saturday.

The Tartans, who faced three nationally-ranked teams this season were receiving votes in the final regular season rankings and were ranked as high as eighth during the year after entering the rankings in week three of the season at 18th following a 1-0 win at 16th-ranked John Carroll University. The Tartans opened the year with an 8-0-1 record and faced six teams that made the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

Carnegie Mellon and Calvin have met twice before in the NCAA Tournament with Calvin earning a 1-0 victory in Pittsburgh in the second round in 2016 and a 2-1 victory in the third round in 2009, also in Pittsburgh.
