Tartans Drop UAA Contest to WashU at Home

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team hosted Washington University in St. Louis on Friday, October 20 in University Athletic Association (UAA) play. Nearly 75 minutes passed before the first goal and WashU went on for the 3-0 victory. The Tartans are now 7-4-3 overall and 0-2-2 in the UAA while the Bears are 5-6-1 and 1-3.

  • The first half was evenly played with the Bears putting one of five shots on frame and the Tartans misfiring four shots.
  • The Bears broke the scoreless game in the 75th minute with a free kick shot by Owen Culver.
  • About four minutes later Culver scored again from the left side of the 18-yard box with a curling left-footed shot to the right side netting.
  • Joseph Hipskind added to the score in the 89th minute after a long pass from midfield by Eugene Heger.
  • Sophomore Brendan Schonwetter, senior Alejandro Fernandez, and freshman Julian Koide each attempted two shots with senior Josh Baugh registering one shot attempt.
