Tartans Win Two of Three at Rochester Duals

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team opened the 2011-12 year at the University of Rochester in a double dual meet with the host Yellowjackets, Case Western Reserve University and New York University. The Tartans defeated Rochester and New York but fell to Case Western.

The 400-yard medley relay started the meet with a third-place finish in a time of 3:35.83 behind freshman Michael Kellman (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman), freshman Cole Um (Federal Way, Wash./Bellarmine Prep), sophomore Terrence Wong (Solon, Ohio/Solon) and sophomore Eddie Sears (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River).

Junior Karl Weisling (Shorewood, Wis./Shorewood) finished second in the mixed 1,650-yard freestyle in a time of 18:42.28 while freshman Andrew Yee (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) touched first in the men's 1,650-yard freestyle in a time of 16:52.14.

Junior Dan Glaser-Garbrick (Dayton, Ohio/Centreville) was first in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:00.09, while the 200-yard freestyle relay was third as Sears, freshman Jonathon Lin (Campbell, Calif./Westmont), Wong and senior Matt Stanton (Richboro, Pa./Council) touched in 1:28.42. The 800-yard freestyle relay also finished third as freshman Jonathan Leung (Hong Kong/Phillips Academy), Kellman, junior Brandon Yee (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) and Andrew Yee touched in 7:15.28.

The Yee brothers swept the 200-yard freestyle with Andrew taking first place in 1:46.45 and Brandon finishing second in 1:47.31.

Um picked up a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke behind a time of 1:01.77  and followed it with a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:15.23. Glaser-Garbrick returned Saturday to win the 200-yard butterfly in 1:56.47 and 400-yard IM in 4:14.95.

The 200-yard backstroke saw freshman Anton Razanav (San Diego, Calif./Westview) take third place in 1:59.71 ahead of Glaser-Garbrick in 1:59.85 while freshman David Campbell (Vorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:54.44.

Senior Eli Fatsi (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal) was fourth on the one-meter and three-meter diving boards for the Tartans while senior Mike Alexovich (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) was fifth on the one-meter and sixth on the three-meter.

The Tartans will be home on Saturday, November 5, when they host Clarion University at 11:00 a.m.
