Tartans Prepare for UAAs at Western PA Invite

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team traveled across Forbes Avenue to the University of Pittsburgh for the Western Pennsylvania Invite on Saturday afternoon. The meet was in preparation for the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships to be held February 14-16 in Atlanta, Georgia.

On Friday night, junior Gabe Bamforth (Cambridge, Mass. / CRLS) finished third on the 1-meter board with a score of 278.20. He then took fourth in the 3-meter scoring 248.35.

On Saturday, freshman Thomas DeLauro (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater-Raritan) and junior Jack Lance (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) placed third and fourth in the 1,000-yard freestyle. DeLauro touched the wall in 9:56.13 while Lance touched in 9:59.09. Freshman Max Gonzalez (Allison Park, Pa. / North Allegheny) also turned in a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:41.37.

Freshman Ishaan Jaffer (Mumbai, Maharashtra / The Cathedral and John Connon School) touched third in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:44.14.

Freshman Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason) turned in a third and fourth finish on Saturday. He placed third with a time of 52.12 in the 100-yard backstroke and touched fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in 47.89.

The Tartans had two other fourth-place finishes with junior Winston Chu (Warren, N.J. / Saint Peter's Prep) touching the wall in 57.53 in the 100-yard breaststroke and sophomore Ryan Fitzpatrick (Montgomery, N.J. / Montgomery) touching in 22.09 in the 50-yard freestyle.

The UAA Championships begin Wednesday, February 14 on the campus of Emory University.
