Tartans Sweep UAA Weekly Awards

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving program swept the University Athletic Association (UAA) weekly awards when athlete of the week for swimming and diving was given to senior Gabe Bamforth (Cambridge, Mass./CRLS) and freshman Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge).

Bamforth recorded the most points on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards when the Tartans hosted Washington and Lee University on Saturday, November 10. The senior recorded season-best scores of 357.30 on the 1-meter and 356.85 on the 3-meter after six dives apiece. Both scores were NCAA qualifying marks as Bamforth achieved a qualifying score on the 1-meter for the second consecutive meet, solidifying his entrance to the NCAA Regional Diving Championships. Additionally, his 1-meter score was a career-best for six dives while his 3-meter score was .38 points off his top score.

Dauksher won three events in his second collegiate meet to lead the team to a 191-71 victory against Washington and Lee. Dauksher's first win came in the 200-yard freestyle which he finished in 1:42.28. His second win was in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:39.88 before he won the 200-yard IM in 1:55.48. The freshman now leads the team in all three events and the 400-yard IM.

The season continues on Friday, November 16 when the divers host a two-day invitational. Dauksher will be back in the pool with the rest of the team on Thursday, November 29 for a three-day meet at Kenyon College.
