Tartans Narrowly Miss Victory Against Johns Hopkins at Home

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team hosted Johns Hopkins University for a dual meet on Saturday, February 1. The Tartans narrowly missed winning, as the Blue Jays won 135-127.

The Tartans won both the 200-yard medley relay to open the meet and the 200-yard freestyle relay to close the meet.

Top individual finishes came from freshman John McNab (Westport, Conn. / Staples), junior Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason) and freshman Erik Feldmann (Yakima, Wash. / West Valley). McNab touched first in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:29.84, Britton was first in the 100-yard backstroke in 50.16 and Feldmann led a sweep of the 100-yard freestyle in 47.09.

Second-place finishes were earned in nine races. Freshman Aleksander Tarczynski (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) was second in two events, the 200-yard butterfly in 1:52.07 and the 400-yard IM in 4:07.40.

Sophomore Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge) finished the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.00, sophomore Jasper Lessiohadi (Lawrenceville, N.J. / George School) touched second in the 100-breaststroke in a season-best time of 56.55 while freshman Matthew Nagler (West Chicago, Ill. / St. Charles East) finished the 50-yard freestyle in 21.26.

Other second-places finishes came from freshman Yousef Hassen (Redlands, Calif. / Redlands) in the 100-yard freestyle in 47.14, Britton in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:51.43, McNab in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:37.30 and freshman Alec Chiu (Sewell, N.J. / Washington Township) in the 100-yard butterfly in 50.27.

Although diving wasn't scored for the meet, sophomore James Kyle (Austin, Texas / St. Stephen's Episcopal School) led the men on the 1-meter board with a six-dive score of 318.00 and on the 3-meter board with a score of 333.07.

The Tartans will next compete at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships at the University of Chicago from February 12-15.
