Tartans Show Versatility in Victory at Gettysburg

(GETTYSBURG, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team won its second dual meet of the season on Saturday, November 5 at Gettysburg College. The Tartans won the meet by a 197-65 score.

Top Performances

  • Junior Santiago Gomez touched first in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:57.15, recording the team's top time of the season.
  • Freshman Kevin Zhou won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:45.02.
  • Freshman Arnav Deshpande touched first in the 100-yard backstroke in 51.94, knocking nearly a second off his previous season-best time which placed him third at last week's meet against Case Western Reserve.
  • Freshman Max Kulbida was the winner of the 100-yard breaststroke, closing the race in 59.10 for his first collegiate victory in an event after placing third in the event last week along with a second-place finish last week.
  • Freshman Todd Achuff led a sweep of the 200-yard butterfly in 1:58.34.
  • Senior Aleksander Tarczynski led a sweep of the 50-yard freestyle in 21.23 while senior Erik Feldmann led a sweep of the 100-yard freestyle in 47.67.
  • Sophomore Christian Lanuza finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:05.93 to record the team's top time in the event this year.
  • Freshman Rohit Garikipati won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:55.21 for his first collegiate victory.
  • Tarczynski became a double winner with a victory in the 100-yard butterfly in a team-leading time of 50.94.
  • Freshman Raymond Welgosh won the 200-yard IM in 1:56.85 for his first career victory.
  • The Tartans also won the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay.
