Tartans Win Six Events In High-Level Quad Meet

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team began the second semester with a quad meet at home against Calvin University, Denison University, and Johns Hopkins University on Saturday, January 13 two days after returning from its training trip to Florida.

Top Performances

  • Opening Relay: The 200-yard medley relay won with a time of 1:29.73 behind the swims from sophomore Arnav Deshpande, junior Christian Lanuza, graduate student Aleksander Tarczynski, and sophomore D.J. Lloyd.
  • Freshman Brayden Morford just out-touched Deshpande in the 100-yard backstroke to finish first in 49.36 seconds to Deshpande's 49.42 as the only two times to break 50 seconds. Both times are provisional qualifiers.
  • Junior Christian Lanuza won the 100-yard breaststroke for the fifth time this season with a time of 55.21 seconds.
  • Lloyd was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle in 20.86 seconds.
  • Graduate student Willem Goedecke took second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:41.50.
  • Graduate student Aleksander Tarczynski touched first for the Tartans and fourth overall in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:51.04 and later finished third in the 100-yard butterfly in 49.33.
  • Morford won for the second time on the afternoon by touching first in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:49.28.
  • Lanuza placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:02.63 with freshman Andy Lu touching third in 2:02.84.
  • Lu ended his day with a third-place showing in the 200-yard IM in 1:52.69
  • Closing Relay: The 200-yard freestyle relay just missed a first-place finish, as Morford, Tarczynski, Deshpande, and Lloyd touch in 1:22.18, just .09 off the winner.
  • Jonathan Lindstrom led the Tartan divers with a second-place finish on the 3-meter board with a mark of 279.65 after six dives.

Notes

  • Pool records were set by the Tartans in the 200-yard medley relay, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke, and 200-yard backstroke.
