Tartans Top Bobcats in First Match of 2012

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team opened the 2012 season with a 9-0 victory against Division II West Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday, February 4 at The Club Life in Monroeville, Pa. The win marked head coach Andrew Girard's 250th career win.

Junior Duke Miller (Poway, Calif./Poway) and freshman Will Duncan (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) won at number one doubles 8-5 and won their respective singles matches 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-3.

Freshman Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) also had two wins along side senior Jeremy King (East Meadow, N.Y./Chaminade). Heaney-Secord won at number two single 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 and paired with freshamn Bryce Beisswanger (Los Angeles, Calif./Viewpoint School) at number three doubles to win 8-4. King won his number five singles match 6-2, 6-3 and paired with freshman Thomas Cooper (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) at number two doubles to win 8-3.

The Tartans will be in action again on Saturday, February 11 when they host Division I Robert Morris University at Alpha Tennis in Harmar, Pa., at 4:30 p.m.
