#13 Tartans Move On to Semifinals of UAA Championships

(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) – The 13th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the University Athletic Association Championships with a 5-4 victory over New York University Thursday, April 26 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. The wins moves the Tartans record to 13-5 while NYU is now 9-6.

Carnegie Mellon began the match strong, winning second and third doubles to lead 2-1 heading into singles. After NYU tied the match at 3-3, junior Duke Miller (Poway, Calif./Poway) won 7-6 (7-1), 3-6, 6-1 at first singles before the Violets knotted the score at 4-4 with a win at second singles.

The match then came down to six singles where Tartan junior Jooho Yu (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) dropped the first set 5-7 before winning the next two by the scores of 6-3, 6-1 to seal the Tartan victory.

Carnegie Mellon will now face #17 Washington University Friday, April 27 at 9:00 a.m. in the semifinals.
