Tartans Win Twice on the Road in Dual Action

(OBERLIN, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team won two matches Saturday afternoon in Oberlin, Ohio, defeating host Oberlin 9-0 and Franciscan University 9-0. The Tartans are now 4-0 for the fall season.

Against Oberlin juniors Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) and Bryce Beisswanger (Los Angeles, Calif./Viewpoint School) won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles as sophomore Paul Okuda (Kaneohe, Hawaii/Punahou) paired with freshman Jack Kasbeer (Lake Forest, Ill./Deerfield) to win 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. The first-year tandem of Kiril Kirkov (Tampa, Fla./C. Leon King) and Kunal Wadwani (Saratoga, Calif./Ballarmine College Prep) also won 8-4 at No. 3 doubles to start the Tartans off with a 3-0 lead.

In singles play, freshman Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) won 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 slot over Soren Zeliger while Heaney-Secord won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles against Callan Louis.

In the match versus Franciscan, Kasbeer and Zheng won at No. 1 doubles 8-0 as sophomores Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) and Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School) also won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. Also playing doubles was sophomore Joel Lankford (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) and senior Julian Pearlman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) who won 8-1 in the No. 3 slot.

In singles, Alla won in the No. 1 spot 8-2 with Kumar and Lankford winning 8-0 at No. 3 singles and No. 5 singles.

The Tartans will next be in action as a team on Sunday, October 13 when they host Amherst College at 1:00 p.m.
