Tartans Defeated by Amherst in Final Fall Match

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team hosted Amherst College Sunday afternoon.  The Tartans were defeated by Amherst 5-4, as they end the fall season 4-1.

The day started off with the three doubles matches.  Juniors Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) and Will Duncan (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) finished the first match of the day beating the Amherst team of seniors Justin Reindel and Joey Fritz 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.

At No. 2 doubles, the freshmen doubles team of Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and Jack Kasbeer (Lake Forest, Ill./Deerfield ) battled back from being down 7-4 to make the set 7-6. They just missed tying it up in the final moments of the exciting match losing 8-6.

Following doubles play, the Tartans trailed 2-1 after Amherst grabbed its second point winning No. 3 doubles 8-6.

Heaney-Secord jumped from the doubles match into playing No. 2 singles against Amherst's sophomore Andrew Yaraghi.  Finishing the first singles match of the day, he defeated Andrew Yaraghi in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-1. 

Duncan followed Heaney-Secord's performance winning at No. 3 singles over Amherst freshman Anton Zykov, 6-2, 6-4.

The Tartans earned their fourth point of the day at No. 6 singles when Zheng defeated sophomore Aaron Revzin in an extremely close battle, 7-5, 6-3.

With the match tied at 4-4 it came down to No. 4 singles.  Tartan freshman Kiril Kirkov (Tampa, Fla./C. Leon King) won the first set 6-4 over Aaron Revzin before Revzin won set two and three by the scores of 6-2, 6-4, to secure the win for the visitor's.
