Alla and Doubles Tandem Advance to ITA Regional Semifinals

(FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) – Junior Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) along with the doubles team of senior Bryce Beisswanger (Los Angeles, Calif./Viewpoint School) and junior Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School) advanced to the singles and doubles semifinals of the USTA-ITA Southeast Regional Men's Tennis Championship on Sunday, September 28 at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va.

In the quarterfinals, Alla defeated Stratton Gilmore of the University of Mary Washington in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.  To reach the quarterfinals, Alla topped Jordan Krasner of Washington and Lee University 6-3, 6-2.

Two other Tartans reached the quarterfinals in singles play.  Senior Will Duncan (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) defeated Daniel Albers of Salisbury University 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, before falling to top seeded Mike Buxbaum of Johns Hopkins University 6-2, 6-1.  Sophomore Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) also advanced to the quarterfinals after downing Ed Corty of Johns Hopkins in straight sets 6-2, 7-5.  Zheng then ran into Corty's teammate Ben Hwang, who was seeded fourth, an dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision in the quarters.

In doubles play, Beisswanger and Kumar opened play on Sunday with an 8-3 win over William Bannister and Jordan Krasner of Washington and Lee.  The tandem then blanked Spencer Bullock and Drew Tomajczyk of Virginia Wesleyan College 8-0 to advance to the semifinals.  

Beisswanger and Kumar begin play at 8:00 a.m. on Monday while Alla's semifinal match will begin at 8:30 a.m.
