Tartans Sweep Singles Play, Defeat Oberlin 8-1

(OBERLIN, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team brought home an 8-1 victory against Oberlin College on Saturday, October 10 in their second duel match this season.  The win puts the Tartans at 2-0.

The Tartans led 2-1 going into singles play with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.  Freshmen Vayum Arora (Fremont, Calif./Mission San Jose) and sophomore Jeffrey Chen (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) defeated their Oberlin opponents 8-5 while junior Kiril Kirkov (Tampa, Fla./C. Leon King) and senior Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) finished 8-2 over their opponents.

The Tartans swept all six singles matches with straight set victories. Alla won at No.1 with a 6-3, 6-0 win against Oberlin's Paik. The Tartans continued their singles sweep with freshman Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill./Boca Prep International School) winning at No.2 with 6-3, 6-4 wins, Kirkov won at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-4 win and junior Kunal Wadwani (Saratoga, calif./Ballarmine College Prep) played No. 4 and Kumar No. 5, each winning 6-1, 6-1. Rounding out singles play for the Tartans was Arora with a7-5, 6-0 win at No. 6.
