No. 8 Tartans Fall in UAA Semifinals to No. 1 Emory

(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) - The eighth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team faced No. 1 Emory University in the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship semifinals on Friday, April 22. The Eagles excelled in singles play to take the match, 8-1, and put the Tartans record at 15-6.

In three closely contested doubles matches, the freshman duo of Vayum Arora (Fremont, Calif./Mission San Jose) and Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill./Boca Prep International School) won their No. 1 doubles match, 8-6. The pair led 4-0 and 6-4 before the Eagles tied it at 6-all. No. 2 and No. 3 doubles went to the Eagles, both by 8-6 scores.

The Eagles had strong performances in singles play and secured the match with wins at second, fourth and fifth singles.

Seniors Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) and Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School) both forced a third set in their respective first and sixth singles matches, however, Emory rebounded and won both to sweep the points in singles play.

The Tartans will face the loser of fifth-ranked University of Chicago and seventh-ranked Washington University in St. Louis on Saturday, April 23 at 9:00 a.m. in the third-place match.
