Downing Named UAA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis sophomore Chaz Downing (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week following his play for the Tartans over the weekend.

Downing was undefeated in singles play against Division I Saint Francis University and Division II Walsh University during a Saturday double-header for the Tartans. The sophomore started the day with an 8-1 victory against Walsh where he earned match point at second singles by a 6-0, 6-4 score. Later in the afternoon, Downing finished the day with one of the team's two singles victories in a 5-2 loss to Saint Francis. Downing won 6-3, 6-2 at second singles. He also won at third doubles against Walsh, 8-1.

The Tartans will continue action on Saturday, February 18 against Division I Youngstown State at the Boardman Tennis Center in Boardman, Ohio, at 3:00 p.m.
