#7 Men’s Tennis Drops 6-3 UAA Semifinal Match to #2 Emory

(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) – For the second straight season, the seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team faced No. 2 Emory University in the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship semifinals on Saturday, April 22. The Tartans dropped a 6-3 decision to the Eagles and are now 16-8 while Emory moves to 16-4. The three-day event is being held at the Sanlando Park Tennis Complex in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

The Tartans took a 2-1 lead into singles play after earning wins at first and second doubles with the identical scores of 8-6. The tandem of junior Jeffrey Chen (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and sophomore Chaz Downing (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) won at number two, minutes before the duo of sophomore Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill./Boca Prep International School) and freshman Mark Prettyman (Fairfax, Va./Thomas Jefferson) won at first doubles.

Senior Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) recorded the Tartans lone point in singles play. The senior posted a 7-6 (7), 3-6, 11-9 win at fourth singles.

The Tartans will play the University of Chicago on Sunday, April 23 at 9:00 a.m. in Altamonte Spring, Florida in the third-place match.
