#9 Men’s Tennis Earns NCAA Tournament Bid

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team will compete for the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship where they'll travel to Chicago, Illinois. The ninth-ranked Tartans earn a first round bye and will begin competition on Saturday, May 12.

Carnegie Mellon enters the championship ranked ninth in the nation, earning the program's sixth NCAA tournament bid and first under head coach Mike Belmonte who was promoted at the conclusion of the fall season. In 2016, the Tartans advanced to the third round before falling to Johns Hopkins University.

The University of Chicago (16-4), ranked seventh in the nation, has been elected to host the weekend's event that begins on Friday with Augustana (IL) College (18-12) facing John Carroll University (12-8). The Maroons will face the winner of Augustana and John Carroll on Saturday with the Tartans (14-7) facing Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (17-10) on Saturday as well. The two Saturday winners will play on Sunday for the chance to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals in Claremont, California.
