#23 Tartans Topped #19 Southwestern to Close Spring Break Trip

(ORLANDO, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team, ranked 23rd, finished its spring break contests with a 5-4 victory against 19th-ranked Southwestern University on Friday, March 10 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. The Tartans are now 5-5 overall while the Pirates fell for the first time and are 5-1.

How it Happened

  • The Tartans picked up to key wins at second and third doubles by identical 8-5 scores from senior Raahil Doshi and junior Jaden D'Abreo and junior Derek Wong and freshman Akshay Joshi.
  • Joshi was the first to finish singles play and made the score 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the fifth position.
  • Junior Nicholas Wernink put the Tartans up 4-1 with a 6-4, 7-5 victory at second singles.
  • Doshi secured the win with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 score at first singles.

Notes

  • Doshi's singles win was his eighth of the season.
  • The doubles win for Wong and Joshi was their third for the week in Florida.
