Jangbahadur Honored as UAA Athlete of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) –  Freshman Raghav Jangbahadur has been honored as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for his performance at the ITA Southeast Regional.

Jangbahadur had a debut to remember at the ITA Southeast Regional returning home as the singles champion and doubles runner-up. After playing four matches on Sunday, Jangbahadur closed the tournament with a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) victory against junior Evan Erb of Washington and Lee University to become the second Tartan freshman to win the singles title and first player since 2018.

Jangbahadur started the tournament's final day in the doubles semifinals with fellow freshman Daniel Kong, winning against the number one-seeded team from Swarthmore College 8-5. The rookie pair then played the doubles final to an 8-2 loss against a senior pair from the University of Mary Washington who was seeded second. His third match of the day was against his doubles partner, Kong, in the singles semifinals. Jangbahadur outlasted Kong with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 win before topping Erb, who was seeded second.

The freshman is now set to compete at the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia, beginning on Thursday, October 12 in both singles and doubles.
