#22 Tartans Drop Hard Fought Match, 5-4, to #13 Swarthmore

(SWARTHMORE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team, ranked 22nd in the nation, played at 13th-ranked Swarthmore College on Saturday. The Tartans are now 2-4 after dropping the match, 5-4.

Inside the Results

  • Doubles play was tightly contested; however, the home squad was able to pull away in each match to lead 3-0.
  • With three matches playing at a time, the Garnet took a 4-0 lead when Michael Melnikov topped freshman Raghav Jangbahadur, 6-3, 6-2.
  • Senior Nadim Motaghedi won his first set 6-3 against Max Lindstrom at second singles before falling by the same score in the second set. Motaghedi recovered and won set three, 6-4, to make the score 4-1.
  • Freshman Daniel Kong forced a third set in his third singles match and won 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-0 to earn the team's second point.
  • Senior Nicholas Wernink brought the Tartans within one point with a 7-5, 6-3 win at fourth singles.
  • Rishi Verma sealed the win for Swarthmore with a straight set victory at fifth singles over junior William Wang.
  • The scoring concluded with a three-set win for the Tartans by sophomore Akshay Joshi by the scores of 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (11).
