Tartans Rebound Nicely with 5-3 Win Against #39 Concordia

(GEORGETOWN, Texas) – The 18th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team played 39th-ranked Concordia (Texas) University on Wednesday, March 6 at Southwestern University. The Tartans earned a 5-3 victory after trailing 2-1 following doubles play to move to 3-5 for the season. The Tornados are now 6-2 for the season.

How it Happened

  • Senior Nicholas Wernink and freshman Theodore Gershon picked up a point for the Tartans at third doubles by defeating Daniel Beckles and Joeri Bregman, 8-6.
  • Senior Nadim Motaghedi finished singles play first with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Adrian Munguia at third singles to tie the match at 2-all.
  • Freshman Daniel Kong gave the Tartans a 3-2 lead with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 win at second singles against Steven Scholz.
  • Freshman Justin Yi put the Tartans ahead 4-2 with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 win at sixth singles.
  • Sophomore Akshay Joshi also won in three sets, topping Bregman 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 to secure the match win by making it 5-3.
  • Wernink was leading in the third set at fourth singles, 5-3, when it was abandoned.

Due to inclement weather expected tomorrow, the match against Southwestern has been moved to tonight and will begin at 7:15 p.m.
