Tartans Compete at Ed Fry Invitational

(INDIANA, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the Ed Fry Invitational hosted by Indiana University of Pennsylvania Saturday, April 21.

Senior Anthony Hernandez (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood) turned in a second-place showing with a throw of 47.91 meters in the hammer.  Sophomore Nathan Cheek (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) was right behind Hernandez with a toss of 45.67 meters to place third. Also in the throwing events, sophomore Zachary Erra-Hernandez (Las Cruces, N.M./Onate) finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 15.00 meters.

In the pole vault, junior Dan Cardenas Rivero (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) finished fifth after clearing a height of 4.05 meters.

Freshmen Thomas Vandenberg (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck finshed second in the 400-meter race with a time of 49.56 while sophomore Kenneth Murphy (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) placed fourth in the 1,500 meter run in  4:05.64.

The track and field team will compete again April 28-29 as they host the UAA Championships.
