Erra-Hernandez Garners UAA Honor

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Senior Zachary Erra-Hernandez (Las Cruces, N.M./Onate) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's outdoor track and field team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week for field events following his performance at the Carnegie Mellon Mini Invitational, Friday and Saturday, March 28-29.

Erra-Hernandez led the Tartans to a first-place team finish at the home mini invitational with three top-three finishes, scoring 24 points that helped the men outscore a second place Allegheny College by 75 points.

Starting the first day of the meet with a school record and new career-best, Erra-Hernandez tossed the hammer 53.90 meters, a throw which currently ranks him No. 10 nationally.  He followed up that performance with a first-place finish and season-best throw of 15.75 meters in the shot put and a third-place heave of 42.02 meters in the discus.

Erra-Hernandez and the Tartans will be back in action again at home on Saturday, April 5, when the team competes against Penn State Behrend, Washington & Jefferson and Westminster in the CMU Quad Meet.
