Three Men and Three Women Honored on USTFCCCA All-Region Team

(NEW ORLEANS, La.) – Six Carnegie Mellon University track and field athletes have been honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with All-Region accolades for the outdoor track and field season.

To be named All-Region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-five of an individual event in the region according to final TFRRS data or be part of a top-three relay team.

Junior Owen Norley (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) is earning his second All-Region award for the 2015-2016 year as he finished top-five in the 1,500-meter run with a career-best 3:50.84 time this spring. In the winter, he received the award for his finish in the mile run. Norley is joined on the All-Region team by junior Curtis Watro (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) and sophomore Jacob Schofel (Livingston, N.J./Livingston). Watro placed in the top-five in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a career-best time of 9:16.62 while Schofel appeared in hammer throw for a career-best mark of 52.33 meters.

Sophomore Sarah Cook (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) ran the 400-meter run in a career-best 56.67 this spring to finish in the top-five regionally. Two freshmen join Cook with accolades, as Debarati Bhanja (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) finished in the top-five in the long jump (5.57m) and Oly Nwankwo (Homestead, Pa./Stevenson) registered a top-five placement in the hammer throw (43.16m).
