Carnegie Mellon’s Aldrich Named to the USA Coaching Staff for 2019 NACAC U23 Championships

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – Gary Aldrich, head coach of the Carnegie Mellon University track and field teams, has been named to the U.S.A. coaching staff as the Throws Coach for the 2019 NACAC (North American, Central American, and Caribbean Athletic Association) Under 23 Championships this summer. The event will take place in Queretaro, Mexico, from July 5-7. This marks Aldrich's sixth coaching stint on the international stage.

"I look forward to working with our nation's younger throwers, some of whom I have had the pleasure to work with in the past," said Aldrich. "The opportunities to be on a staff for Team USA, to meet, work with and be around the best athletes and coaches in the world competing and training at the highest level will continue to help me develop as a coach. The Tartan athletes have excelled because of the new drills and ideas I have learned and brought home with me to utilize here at CMU."

In July 2010, Aldrich served as the assistant throws coach for the NACAC U23 Team and served as the throws coach for the United States at the World Junior Track and Field Championships in Barcelona, Spain, in July 2012. In March of 2016, Aldrich coached the throwers at the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada, before being named the Men's Throws Coach for the World Indoor Championships in Portland, Oregon. Two years ago, he was the Assistant Throws Coach for the 2017 IAAF World Outdoor Championships in London, England.

"I am honored with being named a coach to an International Team by U.S.A. Track and Field," added Aldrich. "I am once again excited to be with a team that started my International Experience. I will be working with some of our countries future champions as I did back in 2010 with Mason Finley, World Championship Bronze medalist in 2017. I am so very fortunate to have these great opportunities in my coaching career. Being selected as one of the coaches for The World's #1 Track & Field Team is always a dream come true."
