Tartans Win Noke Elite Meet at Roanoke College

(ROANOKE, Va.) — The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team placed first overall at the Noke Elite meet hosted by Roanoke College on Saturday. The Tartans had numerous top performances in a field of eight teams, ultimately scoring 148 points against second place Washington & Lee University who scored 133.5.

Senior Fred Dauphin (Brockton, Mass. / Cardinal Spellman) won the triple jump covering 13.55 meters while fellow senior Dhroovaa Khannan (San Ramon, Calif. / Dougherty Valley) took sixth place with 12.48 meters. The pair also placed in the long jump with Dauphin placing sixth with 6.14 meters and Khannan in seventh with 6.12 meters.

Junior Jack Murphy (Ithaca, N.Y. / Trumansburg) placed fifth in the pole vault clearing 4.05 meters. Fellow junior Matt Karee (Elmira, N.Y. / Notre Dame) placed second in the 5,000-meter run finishing in 15:38. Freshman Ian Doherty (Berea, Ohio / Berea-Midpark) finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.06.

Junior Logan Stahl (Oil City, Pa. / Oil City) won the weight throw with a toss of 15.18 meters and freshman Bailey O'Malley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) took second with 14.59 meters. O'Malley also won the shot put with a throw of 14.88m

In the mile run, senior Liam Walsh (Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard) was first in a time of 4:15, and freshman Elijah Sech (San Clemente, Calif. / San Clemente) placed fourth in a time of 4:24. Walsh also paced the men's 3,000-meter run after finishing the mile run. "I think I've had a good base of mileage this season that really helped me out today," said Walsh.

The Tartans swept the 3,000-meter run with senior Edward Goebel (Abington, Pa. / La Salle College HS) claiming the top spot in a time of 8:39, sophomore Naren Karur (Santa Clara, Calif. / Saint Francis) placed second in a time of 8:40, and sophomore Michael OBroin (Park Ridge, Ill. / Saint Ignatius College Prep) placed third in 8:44.

Junior Michael Cai (Dumont, N.J. / Bergen County Academies) took fourth in the 400-meter with a time of 52.51, while sophomore Heoseph Desir (Montville, N.J. / Montville Township) placed fifth in a time of 52.86.

Sophomore Graham Eversden (Chandler, Ariz. / Chandler) won the 800-meter run finishing in a time of 1:55, and senior Evan Yukevich (Tokyo, Japan / American School in Japan) took second in 1:59. Freshman Zahir Saiyed (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) placed fifth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 24.03.

The Tartan's 4x400-meter relay team of Cai, Saiyed, Eversden, and Desir closed out the meet with a third place finish in a time of 3:28.

The Tartans will compete next at Kent State University and Baldwin-Wallace College and on Friday, February 14th.
