Tartans Place Second at BW Mid-February Meet

(BEREA, Ohio) — The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the 2020 BW Mid-February Meet hosted by Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio, on Friday, February 14. The Tartans placed second against a number of Division III athletes and scored 71 points overall. 

Junior Matt Sloan (Harmony, Pa. / Seneca Valley) won the triple jump with a mark of 13.20 meters and placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 6.10 meters. Sloan also took third in the high jump clearing 1.75 meters. Sophomore Nikolas Diamant (Berkeley, Calif. / Berkeley) placed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.07 meters. 

Junior Logan Stahl (Oil City, Pa. / Oil City) won the weight throw with a career-best toss of 15.61 meters. 

Sophomore Brian Lane (Frederick, Md. / Oakdale) placed second in the pole vault clearing 3.81 meters. In the mile run, freshman Ryan Mulcahy (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lake Orion High School) placed eighth in a time of 4:38. 

Freshman Leland Davies (East Brunswick, N.J. / East Brunswick High School) won the 800-meter run with a time of two minutes flat, while fellow freshman Ian Turner (Newport Beach, Calif. / Corona del Mar) placed fourth in 2:04. 

Freshman Justin Hsu (San Carlos, Calif. / Carlmont High) won the 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:54 while classmate Zach Nowak (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn High School) placed third in 9:00. 

The Tartans will compete next at the Bucknell Tune Up hosted by Bucknell University on Friday, February 21 in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
