Tartans Win Roanoke Invitational Challenge

(SALEM, Va.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the Roanoke Invitational Challenge on Saturday and wo the 12-team challenge after scoring 124.5 points.

Graduate student Bram Miller (Colgate, Wis. / Kettle Moraine Lutheran) and freshman Cody Breidenbach (Nazareth, Pa. / Nazareth Area) each broke their own school records on Saturday. Miller led the sweep in the shot put with a toss of 17.22 meters topping his previous school record mark of 17.15 meters. Breidenbach won the weight throw shattering his previous school record of 18.04 meters with a toss of 18.50 meters. The freshman also placed third in the shot put with a season-best mark of 14.83 meters. Junior Bailey O'Malley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) took second in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 15.44 meters.

Freshman Ethan Higgs (Evansville, Ind. / FJ Reitz) recorded a season-best height in the high jump of 1.90 meters to place second.

Sophomore Charlie Murphy (Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry) led the Tartans on the track with a top finish in the 3,000-meter run. He crossed in a personal-best time of 8:47.70. Junior Leland Davies (East Brunswick, N.J. / East Brunswick High School) and sophomore Alex Ivanov (Newton, Mass. / Newton) finished second and third in the 800-meter run with times of 1:57.24 and 1:57.34, respectively, while freshman Colin McLaughlin (Stamford, Conn. / Westhill) placed third in the mile run with a personal-best time of 4:16.96.

The Tartans will compete next at the Bucknell Tune Up on Friday, February 18 and the Mount Union Tune Up on Saturday, February 19.
