Kiefel Tops Own School Record in Triple Jump at Penn State Tune Up

(STATE COLLEGE, Pa.) - A few members of the Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field competed at the Penn State University Tune Up on Friday.

Senior Justin Kiefel (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown STEM Academy) continues to improve on his school record in the triple jump. The senior topped his school record leap of 14.80 meters, which he set early this season, with a distance of 14.85 meters on Friday to win the event. Kiefel also won the long with a mark of 6.97 meters.

Graduate student Bram Miller (Colgate, Wis. / Kettle Moraine Lutheran) and freshman Cody Breidenbach (Nazareth, Pa. / Nazareth Area) each recorded second-place showings. Miller's came in the shot put with a mark of 16.91 meters while Breidenbach placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 17.55 meters. Junior Bailey O'Malley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) finished eighth in the weight with a throw of 14.61 meters and then placed sixth in the shot put with a career-best toss of 15.48 meters.

The Tartans will compete next at the Mount Union Tune Up on Saturday, February 19.
