McGovern and Breidenbach Named UAA Athletes of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Junior Andrew McGovern and sophomore Cody Breidenbach of the Carnegie Mellon University men's indoor track and field team were named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week. McGovern collected the accolade for running after his performance at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational over the weekend while Breidenbach earns the honor for his showing in field events at the Joe LaRocco Invitational Saturday hosted by Roanoke College.

McGovern left Boston University putting his name twice on the programs record books. On Friday, the junior was part of the distance medley relay team that ran a school record time of 9:53.95. The previous record was set in 2017 which was 9:59.79 set by the team of Curtis Watro, Cam Wilkerson, Isaac Mills and Owen Norley. McGovern then set the school record in the 800-metr run on Saturday when he crossed in 1:51.08, topping Thomas Vandenberg's time of 1:51.73 set in 2014.

McGovern's time in the 800-meter run now ranks fifth nationally and tops in the UAA while the DMR ranks eighth nationally and second in the UAA.

Breidenbach helped the Tartans win the 10-team invitational on Saturday, as he won the weight throw with a season-best mark of 18.65 meters and took sixth in the shot put with a throw of 13.77 meters.

Breidenbach's distance in the weight throw is currently eighth nationally and tops in the UAA.

The Tartans will compete at the Penn State Tune Up on Friday, February 17 and the Mount Union Tune Up on Saturday, February 18.
