McLaughlin Sets 3k Meet Record at All-Atlantic Regional Indoor Championships

(NEW YORK, N.Y.) – Members of the Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the All-Atlantic Regional Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday hosted at The Armory in New York, New York.

Top Performances on the Track:

  • Sophomore Colin McLaughlin won the 3,000-meter race with a meet record time of 8:18.83 while senior Elijah Sech finished with a time of 8:32.46 to place sixth.
  • In the mile run, sophomore Aleksei Seletskiy placed third after crossing in 4:10.03.
  • Junior Thomas Rich ran in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles and placed eighth in 8.70. He ran an 8.41 in the prelims.
  • Senior Alex Halkias ran the 200-meter dash in 22.41.
  • A time of 2:04.69 was run by senior Leland Davies in the 800-meter race.
  • Senior Verne Garin crossed the line in a personal-best time of 7.08 in the 60-meter dash.

Top Performances in the Field:

  • Rich competed in the long jump and recorded an indoor personal-best leap of 6.91 meters to place third.
  • Senior Bailey O'Malley competed in the shot put and marked at 13.73 meters and then threw 15.26 meters in the weight throw.
  • In the high jump, sophomore Sebastian Sanso recorded a height of 1.85 meters.
  • Freshman Christian Duckworth cleared the bar in the pole vault at 4.28 meters.

Up Next:

  • The Tartans will now wait to see the qualifying lists for the NCAA Indoor Championships at Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama on Friday and Saturday, March 10-11. The list will be announced late Sunday night.
