Rich and McLaughlin Earn All-America at NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

(VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.) – Senior Thomas Rich and junior Colin McLaughlin of the Carnegie Mellon University men's indoor track and field team earned All-America recognition at the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. The championships are being held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

NCAA Performances:

  • Rich completed the final three events of the heptathlon Saturday and ended with a school record 5,114 points to place fourth and garner All-America status. Rich broke his previous school record mark of 4,991 points set earlier this season
  • Rich posted a time of 8.50 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles and placed sixth. He then cleared the bar in the pole vault at a career-best height of 4.05 meters placing seventh. Rich closed the heptathlon placing 12th in the 1,000-meter run crossing in a personal-best time of 2:55.73.
  • McLaughlin competed in the 3,000-meter run and placed third crossing in 8:10.74. The junior was .03 seconds off second.

Notes:

  • This is the first All-America honor for both Rich and McLaughlin.
  • Rich set five personal-best marks throughout the championships. They were in the 60-meter dash, shot put, pole vault, 1,000-meter run and overall points in the heptathlon.
