Tartans Compete at Penn State National

(STATE COLLEGE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team competed at the Penn State National Friday, October 14.  The Tartans, the lone Division III school, placed 14th out of 22 teams. The host Lions won the event followed by Division II Grand Valley State and Duquesne to round out the top three spots.

For the fourth time this season, junior Evan Gates (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) led the Tartans with a time of 27:30 to place 39th in the field of 189 runners on the 5.2 miles course. Fellow junior Billy Littlefield (Wellesley, Mass.) finished in 88th with a time of 28:24.  Sophomore Brendan O'Hara (Chicago, Ill./Latin School of Chicago) was 102nd overall for the Tartans in a time of 28:37, as senior Rob Morhard (Eagleville, Pa./Methaeton) crossed the line with a time of 29:02, placing 117th.

The next three Tartan runners finished all within 10 seconds of each other with sophomore Adam Cantini (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) crossing in 29:15.  Sophomore Mike Standish (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and freshman Joe Pane (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) recorded times of 29:19 and 29:25, respectively.

The Tartans will have a week off before heading to The Wind City for the UAA Championships hosted by University of Chicago.
