Gates Earns All-America at NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championships

(WINNECONNE, Wis.) – Junior Evan Gates (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team ran at the 2011 NCAA Division III Championships, Saturday, November 19 held at the at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wisconsin hosted by the University Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

The junior earned All-America after placing 28th out of 279 runners on the 8k course, as he crossed the finish line with a time of 24:39.76. This betters his placement from a year ago that was 147th.

Gates is the first Tartan to earn All-America since Brian Harvey in 2008.  Harvey that year finished ninth.
