Gates Earns Place in XC Nationals

(CENTER VALLEY, Pa.) – Junior runner Evan Gates (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) led the Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the 2011 Mideast Regional on Saturday, November 12, at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa. Gates placed sixth overall and punched his ticket to the 2011 Division III NCAA Championships to be held Saturday, November 19, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Haverford College won the meet as Allegheny College junior Bobby Over was the top finisher in 25:25.

Gates finished the 8k race in 25:38 in leading the Tartans while sophomore Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif.) was second for the Tartans in 19th place in 26:15. Junior Billy Littlefield (Wellesley, Mass.) was next to cross the finish line for the Tartans in 41st place with a time of 26:47.

Sophomore Brendan O'Hara (Chicago, Ill./Latin School of Chicago) was 65th overall in a time of 27:18 before senior Kyle Andrews (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) finished 79th in 27:32. Sophomore Ken Murphy (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) crossed the line in 27:40 for 85th place while senior Rob Morhard (Eagleville, Pa./Methaeton) finished in 28:13 for 115th place.
