Tartans Win Mack Cooper Invitational at Slippery Rock

(SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team had five runners finish in the top 10 of the Mack Cooper Invitational at Cooper's Lake Campground on its way to winning the race amongst Division II schools. The race was hosted by Slippery Rock University who finished three points behind the Tartans in second place.

Junior Evan Gates (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) just missed winning the race as he was one second behind Victor Costello of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a time of 25:53. Sophomore Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif.) was second for the Tartans and fifth overall with a finishing time of 26:28.

Sophomore Ken Murphy (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) placed seventh in 26:40 while senior Rob Morhard (Eagleville, Pa./Methaeton) was on his heels in eighth place in 26:42. Rounding out the top five for the Tartans was junior Billy Littlefield (Wellesley, Mass.) in ninth place with a time of 26:48.

The final two placed runners for the Tartans were freshman Josh Antonson (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) in 13th place and junior Graham Shorr (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep CDS) in 16th place. The two finished in 26:57 and 27:12, respectively.

The Tartans will next compete at the Dickinson College Invitational on Saturday, September 24. The race is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
