Tartans Take Title at Lock Haven River Run Invite
(LOCK HAVEN, Pa.) – A strong team performance in which
five runners finished in the top 10 led the Carnegie Mellon
University men's cross country team to the title of the Lock Haven
University River Run Invite on Saturday, September 22. The victory
marks the first for the team this season as they were second a week
ago at Slippery Rock University.
Junior Josh
Newby (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and senior
Evan
Gates (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) finished
second and third in times of 25:15.00 and 25:20.40, respectively,
to lead the Tartans.
Sophomore George Degan (Madison, Wis./West) was
third to cross the finish line for the Tartans as he did in sixth
place in 25:57.30. Behind Degan in seventh place was junior
Ken
Murphy (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) in a time of
26:02.40. Fellow junior Adam
Cantini (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) crossed the
line ninth overall in a time of 26:08.80.
The final two top seven finishers for the Tartans were junior
Brendan
O'Hara (Chicago, Ill./Latin School of Chicago) and
senior Billy
Littlefield (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley). Their
finishes of 19th and 21st, respectively helped ensure the Tartans
win over Lock Haven who's fifth finisher was 20th.
The Tartans will have a weekend off before hosting the Carnegie
Mellon Invite on Saturday, October 6 at 1:45 p.m.
