Tartans Reclaim Championship at Home Invitational

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team reclaimed the title of its home invitational on Saturday, October 6 with four runners finishing in the top 15. The first-place team finish was the second for the Tartans this year.

Junior Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) led the Tartans for the third race this year, finishing third overall with a time of 25:21.5. Senior Evan Gates (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) was seventh overall and second on the team, crossing the line in 25:49.2.

Finishing third for the Tartans was junior Ken Murphy (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) who was 13th in 26:09.2 with sophomore George Degen (Madison, Wis./West) .3 of a second behind him at 26:09.5.

The fifth finisher for the Tartans was senior Graham Shorr (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep CDS), who crossed the finish line 19th overall in a time of 2:18.6.

Junior Adam Cantini (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) came in sixth for the Tartans and 25th overall in a time of 2:33.5 while junior Brendan O'Hara (Chicago, Ill./Latin School of Chicago) was seventh on the team and 32nd overall in 2:41.1.

Winning the race was Carnegie Mellon alum Brian Harvey with a time of 25:10.9.

The Tartans will race at Oberlin College's Region Rumble on Saturday, October 13 at 10:00 a.m.
